Double-Bassist Robert Wright is also an active electric bassist, and composer. A bay area native, he has always played both classical and all styles of jazz and still plays and composes in both idioms. His early musical experience in jazz included playing with Charles Moffett, Smiley Winters and Vince Wallace. He has worked in the past with Mose Allison, Ritchie Cole and Eddie Harris in the 1980’s. He also played with guitarists Herb Ellis, Emily Remler and Jackie King. He has made several jazz recordings since the 1980’s. His classical double bass background includes study with Ortiz Walton and Audry Bush. He has played with the Utah symphony with the Jay Welch Chorale , under John Adams in his premiere of “The Wound Dresser”, the AIMS summer festival opera orchestra (5 years) in Graz, Austria; many regional orchestras in northern California, and several new music ensembles. He was a composition student of Vladimer Ussachevsky, Betty Walburg and John Sendice and has had his compositions played in the U.S., Japan, and Europe. He is currently a member of the Napa Valley Symphony and free-lances in jazz and classical bass.
